In this course we will cover topics such as: Lymphatic System Terminology and Benefits and Contraindications of Lymphatic Drainage. We will examine the difference between edema and lymphedema. We will also learn techniques commonly used for treating Edema and lymphedema.

Learning Objectives:

1. Students will review anatomy and physiology of the lymphatic system

2. Students will review common pathologies of the lymphatic system

3. Students will review indications and contraindications of Manual Lymphatic Drainage

4. Students will review the literature regarding treatment effects of Manual Lymphatic Drainage

5. Students will review Standards of Care for massage therapists

6. Students will practice commonly used techniques in MLD

7. Students will review stages of major and minor surgery recovery

8. Students will demonstrate proper sanitization of equipment

9. Students will practice MLD on clients who are post op or clients with lymphedema when possible

10. Students will practice treatment planning using PICO

11. Students will practice obtaining informed consent
